C’est le tout premier autoportrait du rover Perseverance effectué avec son instrument WATSON (similaire au MaHLI de Curiosity). Mais celui-ci est spécial : on y voit un nouvel objet, un petit hélicoptère, plus un drone, posé sur Mars. C’est Perseverance qui l’a déposé. A l’instar de Sojourner déployé par Mars Pathfinder pour valider la technologie rover, ce petit jouet nommé Ingenuity sert à valider la technologie vol sur Mars. D’ici une semaine, nous devrions connaître quelques éléments de réponse. Cette mosaïque a été acquise au Sol 47 de la mission (7 Avril 2021), et montre également la tête des caméra qui ne nous fait pas face mais comme étant en train d’observer Ingenuity.

This is the very first self-portrait of Perseverance rover, taken with its instrument WATSON (similar to MahLI onboard Curiosity). But this one is special : we can see a new object, a little helicopter, more like a drone, standing on Mars. It was deposed by Perseverance. Like Sojourner deployed by Mars Pathfinder to validate the rover technology, this little toy nammed Ingenuity is used to validate fly technology on Mars. Starting a week from now, we would have some clue of its whereabouts. This mosaic was taken on Sol 47 of the mission (7th April, 2021), and is also showing the cameras head not facing us, but is like observing Ingenuity.
